NGC 1579, a reflection nebula in the constellation Perseus

This diffuse nebula is also called the Northern Trifid because of its similarity to the southern Trifid Nebula in the constellation Sagittarius

Distance: 2300 light years
Camera: SBIG ST-2000XM
Telescope: Astrophysics Starfire 140 EDT F7.5
Mount: Astro-Physics Mach1 GTO with Advanced Telescope Systems portable pier
Images: 90 subexposures of 10 minutes each with 24 luminance, 24 red, 21 green, and 21 blue for a
                 total of 15 hours.

Software: Camera, mount, and guider control - CCD Commander & MaximDL, calibration and stacking - CCDStack, further processing in Photoshop CS4.
