NGC 896 in NB HOS

NGC 896 is an emission nebula in the constellation Cassiopeia. This is the bright knot of nebulosity just outside of the Heart Nebula, IC 1805. This is a narrowband in the CFHT HOS palette with Ha mapped to red, OIII mapped to green, and SII mapped to blue.

Distance: 6000 light years
Size: 70 LY across

Mount: Astro-Physics Mach1 GTO with Advanced Telescope Systems portable pier
Images: An HOS NB image with 85 subexposures of 15 minutes each with 32 of Ha, 27 of OIII, & 26 of SII for a total time of 21 hours & 15 minutes.

Software: Camera, mount, and guider control - CCD Commander & MaximDL; calibration, stacking, & color creation in CCDStack, and further processing in Photoshop CS6.
